How to Get Unstuck and Create Lasting Change: The KATS Framework

When you long to change something about your life, but can't seem to make real progress, it means you are missing one of the core foundations of change.

I call it the KATS Framework, which stands for: Knowledge, Action, Tools, and Support

1: Knowledge

Knowledge is about the things you need to know to create the desired change.

If you are stuck, a good place to start is with making sure you have the knowledge needed to make informed decisions.

For example, for weight-loss, you might need to know the fundamentals of nutrition, functions affecting body composition, when and why the body stores fat, how to exercise safely and prevent injury, how often to exercise, and more.

You don’t need to know everything, but without a basic knowledge of what is affecting your health and wellness, you won’t know what is holding you back from achieving your goals.

2: Action

Knowledge is never enough to create change on its own. Knowledge must be paired with action.

More importantly, it must be paired with consistent action. These are the skills and habits that create results over time.

Coaching helps you know what actions to take that will drive the results you seek.

3: Tools

The right tools make action easier.

For example, you could technically write a book by hand. Or you could use a keyboard and computer. You could chop down a tree with an axe – or you could use a chainsaw.

There are many tools available that will make transformation easier. They can include digital tools, physical tools, conceptual tools, and more.

You need to know what they are, how to use them, and when to use them.

4: Support

Coaching and community support help you:

  • Understand and fill your knowledge gaps

    Sometimes we don’t know what we don’t know and we need help. A good coach will help you identify and fill your knowledge gaps, help you make sense of what is going on, what is holding you back, and more.

  • Understand which actions to focus on and when

    Many people try to do too much and then feel overwhelmed. Or they focus on minor things that don’t drive real change. Transformation starts with fundamental actions that drive real results. Coaching helps you identify what you are doing well and what next step is needed to make progress.

  • Select and use the right tools

    Don’t get overwhelmed with the options. When you work with me, we evaluate what tools will be most useful to you and how to use them.

  • Good support helps fuel your motivation and build you up through all the ups and downs of your journey.

    Change is not a linear process. You will struggle sometimes. We are here to celebrate your wins with you and to encourage you when you fall down.
